Happy New Years Eve Party
A New Year’s Eve party is no fun if you are exhausted from planning it and doing all the work. Here’s a way to keep the work to a minimum but make people think you are a party decorating wizard. There will be lots of people at the party and you don’t want a whole lot of little decorations. For one thing, they will be overwhelmed by the crowd and for another thing, it takes ten times as long to set out ten cute little candles as it does to set out one great big New Year’s Eve decoration.
It’s not just in real estate that location is so important. It’s important in making an impact. Focus on decorating your entrance. If you have a house, place two or three big lights on the walkway. There are portable lantern lights that can be used as spotlights. Place a great big fake plant on the steps and drape it with Happy New Year streamers. If you are an apartment dweller, put this big fake plant outside your door — or just inside it, if you are afraid the plant will disappear overnight. If you don’t happen to have a fake plant in your house, borrow one.
Decorate Your Front Door
Decorate your front door with a wreath, a large bow of wide silver or gold ribbon, or hang a basket filled with nuts, cinnamon sticks, and candy canes. Decorate the doorways in your home and decorate the powder room. That’s it! These are the places that people will notice most. If there is a television set in the room where the partying will be done, run a festive movie so that the television can serve as a decoration itself. One party I was at, the host had a video of flames running so that the television looked like a cozy fireplace.
